A Closer Look at Ingredion’s E+C Program: Technology

Christine Castellano Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer, Ingredion Incorporated and a speaker at Ethisphere’s 9th Annual Global Ethics Summit shares her thoughts about moving beyond the hotline to create a strong ethics and compliance program.

Highlights from the interview:

Ethisphere: Why is the notion of moving beyond the hotline important in compliance?

Castellano: For many years the trend in compliance has been technology. From computer-based training, to telephone hotlines—which we refer to as “call lines” at Ingredion to avoid negative connotation—and its very important that companies have these, but these technologies may have some limitations.

Ethisphere: How do you address integrity around the globe?

Castellano: What does integrity mean? I was surprised to learn that integrity does not mean the same thing to every employee. When you travel around the world it can mean very different things. Often, we did training activities to get a common understanding of the values.
